Hike at Charles Lee Tilden Regional Park in Berkeley
(Singles, couples, and friends of NTUAA are all welcome.)
There will be some guests from UC Davis joining us in this event. We’re gonna see the stunning views on the East Bay Skyline National Trail: Briones Park and San Pablo Reservoirs to the east, and San Francisco Bay and Berkeley city's skyline to the west.
· Date: Mar 31 (Sat), 2007
· Meet: You can choose to meet us at any of the following times and places:
(1) For those who drive to the Tilden Park trail head, meet at
Golf Course Drive & Grizzly Peak Blvd at 2:30pm.
Parking available on the Golf Course Drive near the Grizzly Peak Blvd
(2) For those who take the BART, meet at
Shattuck Ave & University Ave, Berkeley, CA at 2:10pm.
(3) For those who would like to have lunch before the hike, meet at
Shattuck Ave & University Ave, Berkeley, CA at 11:50am.
· Directions:
(1) Driving to the Tilden Park trail head:
The park is located in the Berkeley hills just north of Highway 24. On Hwy 24, take the Fish Ranch Road exit east of the Caldecott Tunnel, drive uphill, and turn right at Grizzly Peak Blvd. From Grizzly Peak Blvd, you will pass the Lomas Cantadas entrance (Steam Trains), the South Park Drive entrance, then turn right on to Golf Course Drive. In a few seconds, you will see parking space to your right.
(2) Taking BART:
Get off at Downtown Berkeley. Go north along Shattuck Ave, and meet at the intersection with University Ave.
· Total hike length: ~6.5 miles
· Total elevation gained: ~1000 feet
· RSVP:
(1) For the hike: no need for response.
(2) RSVP if you’d like to have lunch together.
(3) RSVP if you need a ride from BART station at downtown Berkeley to the trail head.

· Bring: Water, layered clothing, sunscreen, binoculars, snacks, and the usual hiking stuff. Please bring a warm coat with you if you will stay for the dinner.
· Rain policy: In case of rain, the hike will be postponed.
A cancellation announcement will be posted on the Coconut website (http://www.ntuaa.org/Clubs/Coconut/) on Friday (Mar 30) evening.

We will circumnavigate south Tilden Park in a counter clockwise direction.
1. Prelude (OPTIONAL Lunch) Meet at Shattuck Ave & University Ave, Berkeley, CA at 11:50am. This is an area with a variety of fine restaurants.
2. Main Theme:
a. Meet at the Golf Course Drive entrance at 2:30pm.
b. Start on Redwood Trail, continue going east on Golf Course Trail.
c. Pass a picnic area, and going north on South Park Drive.
d. Go uphill on Big Spring Trail toward the east.
e. When we reach the ridge of the mountain, the Sea View Trial will take us all the way to the Inspiration Point. This is one of the best parts of the 31-mile East Bay Skyline National trail. If weather permits, we should be able to view in all directions.
f. Take a rest and have some refreshment at the Inspiration Point.
g. Follow the Curran Trail toward Lake Anza.
h. Pass Lake Anza and go south on Selby Trail.
i. Back to the Golf Course Drive entrance by 6:00pm.
3. Finale : (OPTIONAL Dinner) The place is to be decided.
· If you are late on that day, just give me a call. We may
(1) wait for you (if you are not too late),
(2) guide you to our next stop (if you are really late), or
(3) tell you to go home (if you can't make the optional dinner).
